2026 Legislation

This year we're pushing five state bills.  Four of them reached the governor's desk and await his signature.  Those bills are:

   Business and the Economy  AB 1981  Updates how subsidized childcare rates are determined. Gov. desk
   Environment  AB 2619  Requires data center operators to report estimated and actual water usage. Gov. desk
   Housing and Unsheltered  AB 1969  Awards grants to organizations that partner with local education and social service agencies to reduce child poverty. Gov. desk
   Labor and Economic Justice  AB 1609  Requires clear disclosure of the use of chatbots in customer service settings. Gov. desk

One bill continues to be "held under submission," which means it's not likely to go any further and pass this year.  That bill is:

   Healthcare   AB 1970 Bars insurance policies from requiring less expensive mental health prescriptions when more effective ones are available. died

We elected not to advocate any federal legislation this year given the unlikelihood of it passing.
